That’s good news for Dolby, whose Atmos format is being used by both services – although Amazon is also offering tracks in Sony’s 360 Reality Audio format. Apple has been working hard to claim the concept of spatial audio in streaming, but now Amazon is trying to popularise it too. There is a clear sense of a battle here between Amazon and Apple, while they await Spotify’s entry into hi-res streaming. The news came as Amazon also announced that its spatial audio catalogue will now play on a wider variety of devices “including iOS and Android devices, with their existing headphones – no special equipment required”. Now they don’t: as of yesterday, its spatial audio, HD and Ultra HD tracks will be available as the default for Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers. Welcome to HDMusic I love creating music for all emotions of life - happy, sad, motivated or slumped, music is made to suit every occasion. To compare, TIDAL also has a high-definition streaming subscription plan called TIDAL HiFi which comes in at $19.99/month. TIDAL isn’t the only high definition streaming service in town anymore – Amazon just announced Amazon Music HD, a subscription music streaming service that lets you listen to over 50 million songs in CD quality sound (44.1kHz / 16-bit), along with millions more in what it calls “Ultra HD” (192kHz / 24-bit) which is supposed to sound better than CD quality.
